Smut Peddler makes it clear that people are hungry for sex-positive comics. The collection of lady-centric sexy comics first started publishing as a mini-comic in 2003. It stopped printing after three issues, but Chicago comics artist and writer Spike did the world a favor when she revived the collection in 2012. The Smut Peddler 2012 edition (above) compiled 24 different female-identified artists' stories into a fancy full-color anthology that sold like hotcakes.
Now, Smut Peddler is back! The upcoming edition Smut Peddler 2014: Impeccable Pornoglyphics for Cultured Ladies (and Men of Exceptional Taste) is being funded via Kickstarter—Spike was shooting to raise $20,000 and has instead raised $146,000 so far. Remember what I was saying about hotcakes?
The collection provides a much-needed alternative to the way female bodies are often portrayed in typical mainstream comics and highlights diverse tales of sexual joy that are rarely read in any medium. The anthology is also important because it brings the work of female-identified artists, who are underrepresented in the comics industry, onto the shelves of comics shops nationwide. Unlike other pornographic comics, editor Spike only accepts comics into Smut Peddler that feature sex involving enthusiastic consent and a focus on female pleasure.
Here on Bitch, we got approval to post an extra-special exclusive sneak peek of two comics in the collection! How exciting! There's still a couple days left to pre-order Smut Peddler on Kickstarter, so if you like what you see here go snag a copy.
Warning: These comics are very sexually graphic! That's the point.
